For almost 35 years, the Association of Friends has been committed to the Käthe Kollwitz Museum Berlin and has set itself the goal of keeping the memory of the life and work of the important artist alive by financially supporting the museum.
Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945) is one of the most famous artists of the 20th century. The museum focuses on the artist and her courageous attitude to live by basic democratic values at all times. She translated her social commitment into an artistic language that is still understood by everyone today.
Every year, around 25,000 people from all over the world visit the museum, including a great many school classes. The privately founded museum has been financially supported by the state of Berlin since 2014. For this purpose, the Friends of the Museum mainly support the purchase of artworks and assist with special exhibitions.
