About us
More and more children and young people in Germany are having difficulties learning to read. About 20% of the students hardly understand what they read. The consequences are learning problems in most school subjects. The volunteer reading mentors at MENTOR accompany the children as they learn to read. They give courage, they listen attentively and convey joy in stories. Education enables participation. Because those who read can actively participate in democratic processes and social life.
Since 2004, MENTOR HAMBURG e.V. has been working in close cooperation with many primary and district schools in Hamburg. Teachers suggest students for reading promotion and the association then matches them with volunteer reading mentors. The place of reading is the school of the mentees.

Learning needs emotional connection.
1 mentor meets 1 child once a week for 1 hour. And that for at least 1 year.

Wir haben 2.299,39 € Spendengelder erhalten
Dank der Spendengelder können wir bei MENTOR HAMBURG die professionelle Moderation für eine 3-tägige Veranstaltung für neue ehrenamtliche Koordinator:innen finanzieren. Außerdem stemmen wir damit eine Weiterbildung zum Thema Kinderschutz sowie anteilig die Monatskosten für die ausgelagerte Buchhaltung. Die Organisation und Vorbereitung der Vorbereitungsseminare für ehrenamtliche Lesementor:innen liegt in hauptamtlicher Hand und kann ebenfalls anteilig mit diesen Geldern finanziert werden.
