KANTHI means Light SAMSTHA means a Society was formed on 15th August 1991 and was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, with Registration No.454 of 1991. The Samstha has also obtained Registration under section 12 A of the I.T. Act, 1961 (PAN No.AATK4191N), and also registered u/s 6(1) (a) of the FC(R) Act, 1976 with Registration No.010260229 for undertaking Economic, Educational & Social Nature of activities.

The logic behind the caption ‘KANTHI SAMSTHA’ is literally to fill light in the hearts of suppressed.

KANTHI SAMSTHA has been serving through contributions and donations mobilized locally from a sector of like-minded, yet branching out the activities in collaboration with governmental and sister NGO’s as well.

In January 2004 Kanthi Samstha launched relief and rehabilitation work for the 2003 year Cyclone victims with the support of Oxfam. Hyderabad. In the wake of Tsunami, Kanthi Samstha rescued the victims in the form of immediate Relief with the small support of Action Aid.

In May 2005 DKH-Diakonie Emergency Aid; Germany has approved a rehabilitation project for “ Yanadi Tribal and Dalith Communities” affected by the Tsunami and OGNI Cyclone/flood relief (Dec o6-Jan 07 and up to 2010 March) in Andhra Pradesh, which was indeed a major financial assistance to Kanthi Samstha.

However, on the strength of consistent growth in developmental activities, being carried out by Kanthi Samstha, WDP-Germany has assured its support from January, 2011 up to March, 2014 under the guidance of ATMA Consultancy Services, Vijayawada, for initiating awareness and advocacy measures for empowering Dalith and Tribal woman through the strengthening of community governance in six districts of Andhra Pradesh, which is a great support for strengthening of the ongoing efforts of Kanthi Samstha for the most disadvantaged and vulnerable sections.

To promote gender equality and work for the socio-economic and Livelihood advancement of women.
To strengthen the capacities of the poorest for improving their situations, through education, training, Organization and appropriate action programmes.
To promote development and welfare activities of " Children, Women, Youth, laborers and other vulnerable sections of the society for their overall development.
To provide relief and rehabilitation programmes to the victims of natural and human made calamities and tackle the causes wherever possible.
To promote holistic health of the individual, the family and the community aimed at the well being of the most marginalized sections of the Society.
To promote, protect and facilitate proper utilization of natural resources for ensuring sustainable development.

PROPOSED PROJECT DETAILS

Problem/Issue:

The YANADI TRIBAL Children and Women 's life situation is so miserable and more pathetic due to the prevalence of illiteracy, ignorance, very low social awareness and poor quality of living standards.

Context

The Presence of Marginalized communities are Yanadi Tribal, Dalith and other weaker sections. Their culture, attitudes, behaviors are different from others and their life styles are more pathetic and accustomed with minimum income and megre facilities.

They are the silent sufferers due to their ignorance and 90% illiteracy. The YANADI TRIBAL families depending on collection of waste materials, fishing and labor related activities etc., Majority of the tribals live in small thatched huts and the remaining in government constructed small houses.

The plight of the children here in the 02 identified habitations is very much underdeveloped and pitiable. There are no Yanadi children in the high schools and colleges.

Children want to go to school but could not, due to their families’ poor economical conditions and social backwardness. These children are longing for love and affection, education, food, health care, cloth and recreation. Majority of them have lost their childhood.

The Yanadi Tribals are struggling for their survival and existence every day. The children of yanadis are losing their childhood day by day without proper literacy education and nutritious food security due to the very poor economic conditions, social backwardness, illiteracy and ignorance of their parents.

This pathetic plight of the tribal women and their children made to think seriously and plan a small development project for the welfare and upliftment of these marginalized children and woman to initiate measures for restoring their lives. They are most poor and deserving population to help and continue our efforts for their betterment.

Hence, there is a greater need for upholding the dignity of the vulnerable children and their mothers through literacy/social education promotion, health care, nutritious food availability, conducive sanitation and also extending livelihood/income generation promotion among the family members of the children of marginalized YANADI TRIBALS.

In order to bring attitudinal changes among these tribal children, we have to extend long term solidarity services for organizing Yanadi Tribals and to initiate children education development activities at their door step for mainstreaming them instead of simply leaving them as street children.

To achieve this task, Kanthi Samstha is looking for solidarity, cooperation, partnership with financial support through your esteemed organization.

Our Focus of Intervention:
Primary Focus is on Yanadi Tribal Children Education with special attention on Girl Child, Promote an Organized Self Help Groups / SHGs Women Leadership and Empowerment. Locally opportunities are created for Livelihood supports to enhance earnings for Women and those earnings are self-managed, self-controlled and for asset creation. Mainstreaming of Children after primary education into Residential Schools, Tribal Hostels and other skill development centers.

Area Coverage:
The Project shall be executed in Yanadi Tribal Habitations of Mangalagiri in Guntur District and Vijayawada in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh with primary stake holder’s participation at every stage of project execution.

Criteria for the success of the project:

The criteria for the success of the project is the output of the project activities measured by specific indicators
Children enrollment in schools and ICDS/Anganwadi centers for girls/Children in all the habitations.
Existence of SHG s and savings
Improved nutrition among women and children, Better health and hygiene care practices.

Person responsible for monitoring and evaluation of the project:

Chief Functionary is responsible for day to monitoring of the project implementation with the support of the Project coordinator through periodical reviews and corrective measures. Consultants of NGO development activities / Experienced NGOs will evaluate the project.

Auditing, Reporting and Documentation:

The completion Reports and Audited Statements of account / Report shall be prepared and finalized by the Coordinating Team of Kanthi Samstha, and submitted to the Donor Agency 30 days after the completion of the Project..
Necessary Photo Documentation and means of verification of the events shall be recorded and documented.

Expected Impact/Results:
Literacy rate among girl children is improved from the existing 10% to 60% during the implementation of the project.
Two Women SHGs are emerged in each Tribal Community/habitation towards inculcating habit of savings.
Women Leadership developed and their capacities are enhanced. Created Livelihood opportunities locally. The SHGs are linked to Women Federations at Mandal/Area Level promoted by Govt. and for Financial Supports from Banks, and Govt. Poverty Reduction Project. Girl Children shall be linked to Regular School Education System with Hostel Facilities.
