EU Agenda 2025 and Beyond

Berlin, Germany

As part of this project, we want to stimulate debate and invite the young generation to exchange their views on current EU policy and discuss what areas they believe should be given more attention. Based on this, we will draft an agenda for the EU.

The last few years have been marked by diverse challenges for the EU, such as the financial crisis, migration crisis, Brexit and Covid-19 pandemic. This has sparked skepticism towards the European project, influencing European integration, solidarity and democracy. It has also directed the political focus towards responding to immediate challenges, where medium- and long-term perspectives have at times been lost. The “EU Agenda 2025 and Beyond” project is a 3-year long project within which we seek to move beyond short-term perspectives. We will conduct research and develop policy advice that balance short-term approaches with medium-term needs, building the foundation for EU’s long-term success. The project will thereby focus on one of the core missions of PfEU, to address challenges and develop solutions for the future of Europe.

As part of this project, we want to stimulate debate and invite the young generation to exchange their views on current EU policy and discuss what areas they believe should be given more attention, what challenges lie ahead and what kind of change is desirable for a peaceful, secure and thriving Europe post-2025. The highlighted concerns and priorities will contribute to the shape and focus of this research project, ensuring that we advocate ideas for tomorrow that are relevant to the young generation of today. This connects to another one of PfEU’s core missions: giving young policy thinkers a stronger voice in policy debates.

Once these priorities are identified, we will undertake policy research and develop policy solutions for the EU, with the aim to shape key policy decisions relevant for the medium-term. As a final step, we will draft a policy agenda for the second half of the 2020.
