What is the Project About?
Waithaka Community Library, located in Dagoretti/Nairob, Kenya is far more than a place to borrow, read books and use the Internet. Our library is a community meeting place that engages and promotes inspiration, learning, empowerment, information exchange and also, protection. Members and guests can join workshops, Girls’ Talk and Boys’ Talk, play games, watch documentaries & films, and attend live music event.
All of these activities organized by the local librarian, James Njeri, have converted this small community library into a powerful learning and network center for school children and adults alike.
What are the goals and who benefits from the donations?
The primary goal is available all children (young and teenage aged) access to education by providing them with current school books, especially for families that cannot buy books. Besides school books, the library has literature- both non-fiction and fiction, moves, and reference books – thanks to a donor. Moreover, the recent donation of 5 laptops by Grace Impact gives many students access to explore sources beyond the library. Very few people living in Dagoretti a very poor town on the outskirts of Nairobi have a desktop or a laptop computer.
Education is power and is a necessity to better one’s life.
Why should you support our Community Project?
The library has a very small budget and most of the required items for purchase are a one time expense. Anyone supporting this project can be sure that 100% of your donation reaches the libriary. Grace Impact pays for all administration and overhead cost for its activities. We also monitor all the Library’s activities by engaging with James each month via Zoom Meetings and visiting the Library several times per year.
Eventually, we will set up a small water kiosk and latrine business that will help to cover a portion of the costs at the Library.
