Straßengezwitscher e.V. is a non-profit organization from Dresden dedicated to promoting civic engagement for democracy.
In 2019, we launched #Seegezwitscher, a project documenting civilian sea rescue operations in the Mediterranean. Journalist J. Filous accompanied the crew of the "Eleonore" and reported live. This resulted in the real-time documentary "Einhundertvier," which captures the rescue of 104 people and the challenging conditions at sea. The film was awarded the 2025 Grimme Prize in the "Information & Culture" category, with honors for Jonathan Schörnig (Director/Cinematography) and Johannes Filous (Cinematography).
Our organization continues to support democracy and human rights through various formats. This includes our podcast project "verrückt," which has been regularly addressing social and political developments in Saxony since 2018. We are also currently working on new podcast episodes on topics related to the promotion of democracy.
The core of Straßengezwitscher remains our Twitter channel @streetcoverage, which received the Grimme Online Award in 2016. We continue to report on far-right demonstrations and socio-political developments in Saxony.
Additionally, we created the information platform #crowdgezwitscher, a map-based service that enables citizens to collect and share information on far-right activities.
Another key area of our organization is the hosting of events. In October 2016, we organized the successful "2gather" congress against racism and xenophobia, which was attended by over 460 participants.
Through our projects, we continuously work to strengthen democratic values, encourage critical discourse, and promote civic engagement.
