About this project

At Jebrael near Herat there is a strong population growth since years. In 2003 a first school building for mixed-sex classes was built and later another building exclusively for girls. The current project supports the so far less aided boys school. 6000 male pupils are currently being taught in that school originally built for 1,200 children - partly in tents.
An existing building is to be increased by a second floor with five classrooms. The new premises are to be used with 50 students in three-shift operation and thus provide space for 750 students. The pay of teachers is ensured by the state. The project is supported by a project manager of the DAI on site, which is also responsible for the disbursement of funds.
The cost estimate for heightening incl. renovation of the building is € 39,860.50. The acquisition of € 25,000 by the German embassy is promising requested. The German-Afghan Initiative is able to give € 10,000 from existing donations. The rest is to be raised through donations here.
Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2016, the project should be completed in May 2016.
