Bantabaa e.V. is a society that was founded to support refugees in and around Görlitzer Park. Many are so-called Lampedusa refugees who fled their countries and undertook a perilous journey across the desert and Mediterranean Sea. They experienced homelessness in Italy or Greece, where they lived without the civil rights we as Europeans take for granted. On arrival in Germany, they hoped that they could finally return to a semblance of normality, but they were met with further misery and neglect. We decided to commit ourselves to lightening their plight.
Bantabaa is a meeting point for refugees. We provide German- literacy lessons, legal consultation and medical assistance. We help refugees find flats and deal with authorities. Above all, residence status permitting, we try to find suitable employment, whether internships, charity work or a conventional job. We believe this is a vital step towards integration and solving the conflicts surrounding the refugees in our Kiez.
