About this project

Momo Schmitz from Tierfreunde Lesbos e.V. is responsible for this project
Woof! I’m Rollo, a clever dog — or at least that’s what the humans here at the shelter in Petra, Lesvos say. My life? Well... it’s okay, I guess. I share our temporary home with 78 loyal furry friends — plus there’s the external puppy station. But now, both are at risk. Why? Because we bark. Until now, we’ve been tolerated. But now, local residents and the city council feel disturbed. By the end of May at the latest, we’re supposed to disappear — so that people can enjoy their lives undisturbed.

But… where are we supposed to go? We just want to live safely!

Luckily, the amazing people from tierfreunde-lesbos.de have found us a new place — remote, up on a hill, surrounded by mountains. The thick vegetation even softens our barking, so no one nearby will be bothered. And guess what? There’s enough space for the puppy kindergarten too! That’s where the little ones can grow up safely and learn how to behave. Even more cats will be able to live there — they help keep unwanted guests away. Sounds awesome, right?

But there’s a problem.

Before we can move, there’s still so much to do. After setbacks, broken promises, and terrible weather, at least the clearing and leveling of the main area is finally done. Our team even built a food storage and supply station — thanks, guys! But now things are getting tight: despite recycling as much as we can, we’re running low on materials due to unexpected extra costs, delays, and rising prices. And above all — we’re running out of money.

Here’s our plan:

Phase 1 – Laying the foundation:
Clearing and leveling are complete, but we still need to finish key areas like the puppy shelter and iso-stations. We need to lay water pipes, set up tanks, build the perimeter fence with a main gate and safety lock, and divide the land sensibly.

Phase 2 – Prepping for the move:
Enclosures for the mainshelter and iso-stations (used for quarantine, recovery, and adjusting) need fencing, with doors and safety gates. To avoid sinking in the mud during rain, we need sand and heavy machinery for the paths and exercise areas. After building one model hut, the others will follow — with metal roofs, wind protection, drainage, sunshades, and storage space. Once that’s ready, we’ll begin moving — step by step.
After moving we start to build the puppyshelter.

Phase 3 – The fun stuff:
Trim bushes, shape the space — and then my personal highlight: a dog pool! Perfect for cooling off in the summer. Woof, yeah!

So dear humans: please help us! Support tierfreunde-lesbos.de in this enormous task, so we can have a new, safe temporary home.

Every euro counts.
  Yours,
Rollo (and the whole pack) 🐾
