Help for animals. Help for people in East Africa.

 Due to more frequent droughts and floods, people in East Africa are increasingly dependent on external aid. Climate change and the resulting disasters are now part of everyday life for the majority of East Africa's rural population. The poor or, in some cases, non-existent medical care for people and animals in the areas of the pastoralists further exacerbates living conditions.
Furthermore, we live in an interconnected ecosystem where humans, animals and plants interact with each other. Diseases from the animal world also endanger us humans. COVID19 is probably the best-known example, but rabies is unfortunately still one of the most common causes of death in our areas of operation. However, vaccinations and education could sustainably contain these diseases and thus significantly reduce the death rate.
   
Our vision is for people in the Horn of Africa to be able to generate a stable livelihood through the sustainable management of nature and animals and to be able to respond to climate change in the best possible way. With the One Health approach, we want to create added value for the health of people, animals and the environment that surrounds them. 
Together with our colleagues on the ground, we therefore ensure that the people affected receive rapid and lasting help. 
 
How we help: 
- Ensuring sustainable water management and setting up sanitary facilities: hygiene standards are raised & the risk of infection from contaminated (drinking) water is reduced
- Improving food security through the distribution of plant seeds and livestock. The distribution of goats in particular helps to ensure that communities with limited access to other food sources can also be well supplied 
- Supporting local authorities in the implementation of education and vaccination campaigns against rabies. We promote public relations work, train animal health workers in the communities and vaccinate the animals preventively, so that we actively help to contain rabies and reduce the risk of infection
