Kenya's CO2 Compensation through Afforestation and Reforestation

A project from Greening Africa Together/Alle Hand in Hand, e.V.
in Nyahururu, Kenya

Kenya has industrialized rapidly and it's forest cover has shrank significantly, leading to an imbalance in carbon emissions and carbon uptake. We promote forestry by rehabilitating 25,000 ha

About this project

Kenya has a forest cover of 3% far from the global required of 10%. This means that CO2 intake from the atmosphere is so less thus encouraging global warming. Our project aims at rehabilitating forests that were destroyed by fires and other human activities within Laikipia County Marmanet Forest on the Eastern Escarpments of the Great Rift Valley. We are aiming to rehabilitate the 6th sector of the over 100,000 acres vast forest.
The forest is home to herds of elephants, antelopes, leopards and Buffaloes, the Maasai, Turkana, Pokot and Samburu also crisscross the this region grazing animals due to draught in northern Kenya. The most important aspect of our project is controlling addressing CO2, we will also try to address rivers flowing the forest that have since dried up prompting severe drought in Northern Kenya.
This year has seen one of the worst droughts in Kenya, millions going through starvation and millions of cattle, goats, sheep and camels dead. The Ewaso Nyiro North has one of its tributaries originating from the Abardare ranges or Nyandarua ranges which also goes through the famous Lewa conservancy. The River supports millions in northern Kenya which has since become seasonal and at times doesn't flow at all.
