About us

Mercy Ships is an international, faith-based charity that operates the largest civilian hospital ship in the world, delivering vital, free healthcare to some of the world's poorest countries. The floating hospitals "Global Mercy" and "Africa Mercy" provide a state-of-the-art, safe and clean environment for patients - and volunteers.

Since 1978, Mercy Ships has worked with compassion in over 70 countires, providing services that have directly helped more than 2.5 million people.

The teams of volunteers on board the hospital ships treat dental and eye problems, cleft lips and palates, tumours, club feet, childbirth injuries, burns and a variety of other conditions. The teams also work closely with host nations to improve the way healthcare is delivered - by training and mentoring local staff, providing tools and equipment, and renovating hospitals and clinics. Mercy Ship aims to bless each country the organisation visits, leaving behind a strong infrastructure when the hospitalship sails away.
