About us

Opened in May 2025, the new Cultural Planetarium is situated at the creative area of the Alter Schlachthof in Karlsruhe’s Oststadt district. An eight-meter planetarium with seating for up to 42 people, dedicated to teaching astronomy and natural sciences, along with an exhibition on the history and recent topics of astronomy, as well as an observation deck for mobile telescopes to view the Sun, Moon, planets, and brighter deep-sky objects. The exhibition is currently still under construction. The vaulted cellar is hosting ilumbra’s “WeltRaum” exhibition, featuring cosmic light sculptures. Additional art and photography exhibitions are in the planning stages. In addition to scientific content, cultural and artistic events are planned to integrate the themes of astrophysics and cosmology into the urban landscape: readings, lectures, concerts, theater—the sky’s the limit!
