About us
The NGO was founded 60 years ago with the aim of donationbased support for projects with indigenous groups in Latinamerica.
The purpose of the projects is always health related with an emphasis on capacity building. Since 20 years the NGO is running a basic health care clinic for medical assistance of the Urarina people at the Chambira river in the peruvian Amazon. The Urarina are a self-sufficient horticultural, fishing and hunting group. A high child mortality rate, malnourishment and Illnesses as Malaria and parasitosis define the peoples health situation. The illiteracy rate is very high. Only few people finished secondary school. The NGO target promotion of professionalization among the Urarina people especially regarding health related qualifications.
In 2022 the name of the NGO "Freundeskreis Indianerhilfe" was changed into "Förderkreis Kooperation mit Indigenen Amazoniens".
