About us

The "Förderverein zur Erhaltung der Burgruine Freienfels", an association for the preservation of the Freienfels castle, has been organizing the Freienfelser Ritterspiele, one of the largest and oldest medieval events in Germany, for 25 years to aid the Freienfels castle ruins. The castle build in the 13th century has been extensively renovated by the association in the past 20 years and can now be used for weddings and museum events. The annual medival festival is the main source of income to maintain the castle.
