About us

We are a non-profit organization, which unites students, researchers, alumni and friends of the Technical University of Munich.

We are fostering sustainable development for African communities through research-based solutions. Our energy-water-food system built in Saint Rupert Mayer, Zimbabwe, is the world's first of its kind. We aim at bringing our sustainable system to many more villages and countries in Africa.

The sustainability of the projects can only be ensured through the involvement of local people. Hence, we provide self-designed trainings for the community and support the operation of the system on technical and social levels. In addition, we link the projects with local stakeholder including universities and spread the word on scientific conferences to create a global network.

Dear donors and supporters of TU eMpower Africa,

thank you very much for the huge support over the last months!
Together with the local community, we have already achieved the most urgent steps, despite all challenges accompanied by the global pandemic. This includes:

planing and sizing of the system expansion installation of a solar-powered water pump by a local company purchase of drip irrigation components The solar-powered water pump has shown to be the major backbone of the communities' water supply, particularly for irrigation but also for household needs and drinking water.

We are currently coordinating with our local partner to finalize the installation of the drip irrigation to make it fit best to the (new) conditions on site. This will be done within the next couple of weeks, depending on the schedule of our local partner, and will lead to a more efficient water usage already during this dry season.

We also started a project aimed at improving food processing infrastructure. In a participatory approach our project team is working on understanding local demand and requirements for sustainable operation.

As always, we'll keep you posted, more frequently on our social media accounts (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook). Please get in touch with us if you would like to find out more about how to support us.
