Horizon Children's Programme

managed by Nafisa K. (Communication)

About us

Horizon Children’s Programme was set up in 2003 to help in advancing the education of children and young people affected by conflict, poverty and other emergencies in Africa. In 2004 it achieved charitable status in England and Wales. To date the charity has donated thousands of Euros worth of educational materials to schools and the education authorities in Sierra Leone. In 2006 Horizon Children’s Programme established a library in Freetown, Sierra Leone for the benefit of ex child-combatants. Currently Horizon Children’s Programme is working to establish a mobile library/ resource centre that will take much needed teaching and learning materials to far-flung village schools in rural Sierra Leone.

'COME DINE WITH ME' FUNDRAISING EVENING / MOBILE LIBRARY PROJECT   Fundraising efforts to take books to schools in remote parts of Sierra Leone kicked off with a  COME DINE WITH ME EVENING hosted by Nafisa and Edline on Friday 20th August 2010.   Nafisa and Edline were dressed in lovely African attire and laid down scrumptious African Dishes including Nafisa's much talked about Peanut butter Sauce and the irresistably addictive 'rice akara' Guests were charged £20.00 per head and the event raised a whopping £180.00 on the night.   The evening ended with guests scoring the hosts and the food out of 10, the average score for host was 9  and food was10.     The Trustees of Horizon Children's Programme extends their sincere thanks to Lisa, Jo, Simon, Tina, Simon, Richard, Trevor and Alison for a brillliant evening.      This is a relatively easy way of raising funds for the mobile library project which we are hoping to implement in the very near future. WE ARE CALLING ON ALL OUR FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS  TO ORGANISE A COME DINE WITH ME EVENING TO RAISE THE MUCH NEEDED FUNDS FOR THIS PROJECT.   Gratitude to the following Businesses for their generous donations towards the hosting of the event.   Secretts of Milford, Hurst Farm Road, Milford Tesco, Ashenden Road, Guildford
