Horizon Children’s Programme was set up in 2003 to help in advancing the education of children and young people affected by conflict, poverty and other emergencies in Africa. In 2004 it achieved charitable status in England and Wales. To date the charity has donated thousands of Euros worth of educational materials to schools and the education authorities in Sierra Leone. In 2006 Horizon Children’s Programme established a library in Freetown, Sierra Leone for the benefit of ex child-combatants. Currently Horizon Children’s Programme is working to establish a mobile library/ resource centre that will take much needed teaching and learning materials to far-flung village schools in rural Sierra Leone.
