About us

LebKom’s German-Kenyan projects of aim to overcome female genital mutilation. Since the year 2002, girls have been protected, women empowered and men motivated, as part of the Fulda-Mosocho project.

The CENTER FOR PROFS gives us the scientific basis. This includes the Value-Centered Approach, which does not condemn foreign cultures and traditions, but rather respects them and makes them the foundation of our work.

We approach the Kenyans at eye level and give them the impulse for their own gentle revolution - after they gave us the impulse for the founding of LebKom e.V. in 1985.
When Kenyan women invited us to visit their homes as part of the World Conference on Women in Nairobi, they gave us insights into their life situation dominated by violence, which motivated a group of students and lecturers of Social Pedagogy to found an association.

Since then, we have been working as an NGO directly in Kenya - hand in hand with Kenyan organizations, local leaders and grassroots people, with the aim of overcoming female genital mutilation.

Our experts train local multipliers in seminars, who among other things pass their convincing new knowledge on to families, schools, village assemblies, and parents’ schools. This initiates a change in the consciousness and behavior of thousands of families and causes a cultural revolution.

Since 2002, our Fulda Mosocho project has saved over 16,000 Kenyan girls and lowered the rate of genital mutilation in the Mosocho region by 70%.

In 2006 the project was nominated by the EU Parliament for its Human Rights Award, together with Prof. Dr. Hinkelmann-Toewe, member and creator of the CENTER FOR PROFS’ value-centered approach.

LebKom e.V. has been a member of the German network to overcome Female Genital Mutilation (INTEGRA) since 2007. We are currently working with the German and Kenyan governments on national action plans to overcome female genital mutilation.
