About us
Multiple surveys have shown, that in Germany children with a least one parent holding a university degree have a three times higher likelihood of starting a university education than children growing up in non-academic families.
ArbeiterKind.de’s goal is that all children from non-academic families make well-informed choices about their own educational career, based on individual interest and performance rather than social background.
Since 2009, ArbeiterKind.de has grown into Germany´s largest community for first generation students and offers an extensive, accessible, peer-to peer counselling network: Several thousand volunteers are engaged in 80 local groups and support about 30,000 school and university student annually. ArbeiterKind.de volunteers are mostly university students or recent graduates who themselves hail from non-academic families. As local peer-mentors they encourage other talented youth through their own example.
