More than seven years after their initial arrest, the criminal trial against humanitarian workers on Lesbos, Greece, finally began on December 4, 2025. The defendants face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty of the charges, which include aiding illegal entry. Free Humanitarians, the campaign launched on behalf of some of the defendants, has been campaigning for years for justice and against the criminalization of humanitarian aid.
