The spread of the coronavirus is already having implications for all of us and restricts the life we were used to.
It is unimaginable what could happen, if it spreads to countries in the global south where health care systems and hygiene standards are not comparable to the ones, most of us are used to.
In total, there are still more than 800 mio. people without access to clean drinking water and 80% of diseases in development countries are caused by poor hygiene conditions. The spread of highly infectious diseases such as the coronavirus in volatile countries can only be contained, if the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) situation is improved.
In the light of the current coronavirus outbreak, Welthungerhilfe is therefore massively extending its WASH activities and helping with additional
- installations of sanitation and hygiene facilities
- distributions of hygiene products
- hygiene trainings
- 50€ enable us to give a hygiene training course for five people.
- 120€ is enough to secure the distribution of one hygiene kit for several families.
While implementing these measures Welthungerhilfe can build on its substantial experience in countering large-scale disease outbreaks such as Ebola or Cholera.
However, we rely on your support to realize these measures and take action!
