Many problems facing the Pokot people can be correctly connected with illiteracy. The answer to this problem is having a good number of well educated Pokots who will in turn spearhead education in their locality in the near future. Quality education will eliminate the persistent problems of illiteracy, poverty and diseases in East Pokot. The love of education has never been known in Pokot land for so long. With awakening done by missionaries, Pokots parents and their children are now enthusiastic about getting quality education. However, they lack the very basic necessities like classrooms, furniture, water, food, school uniforms, and lights to study at night. It is in this regard that this project seeks to raise funds to build two modern classrooms and up-grade Claude Montesori School to a full Primary School.
Project Background
Location: The project is located at Chemoligot, Kositei mission, Nginyang division in Pokot East District of the Rift Valley province in the republic of Kenya. It is about 200 kilometers from Nakuru town.
Topography and Climate: The Pokot region is arid and semi-arid expanse of thorny scrubland that does not favour farming activities. The arid nature of the terrain is covered all around by hills of volcanic origin. Dry river beds dissect the landscape. The altitude range between 500-1500 meters above see level. The soil is rocky with little or no vegetation cover, no wonder as nomadic herders, some families wonder far in search of food and pasture.
Education the key to eradicate poverty, ignorance and diseases: Education is and has been the way forward in eradicating ignorance, diseases and poverty. So far education is the only oasis of hope in this forsaken region of Pokot. Educating people in an isolated, remote and underdeveloped area of Pokot is a priority that cannot be undermined. With educated people, the recurrent problems of food security, water, disease prevention and treatment, ignorance and drought management in East Pokot can be solved. This makes the need for investing in education necessary and urgent.
This project seeks funds to upgrade the existing Claude Primary School by building one more classroom.
