RORYA DISTRICT IS ONE OF THE POOREST DISTRICT IN TANZANIA. IT IS CLOSE TO LAKE VICTORIA WATER BUT MAJORITY OF THIS POPULATION OF POOR WOMEN AND HELPLESS GIRLS LACK CLEAN AND SAFE WATER. THI HAS COST MANY LIVES , AS A RESULT OF WATER BORNE DISEASES. EVEN THE UNCLEAN WATER AVAILABLE IS VERY FAR FROM SETTLEMENTS. THE GIRLS AND WOEMEN SPEND AVERAGE 6 TO 8 KM DAILY IN SEARCH OF WATER, YET THE GIRLS MUST ALSO GO TO SCHOOL. THIS COMPROMISES THEIR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE. THIS COMMUNITY INDENTIFIED WTAER HARVESTING PROJECT AS A WAY OF THIS PERENNIAL PROBLEM, TO HELP SAVE THEIR LIVES, REDUCE POVERTY AND DISEASES. OVER 250 POOR WOMEN AND 150 POOR GIRLS ARE WORKING ON WATER HARVESTING, DIGGING SHALLOW BOREHOLES IN SEARCH OF WATER.THE PROJECT WILL BENEFIT OVER 147 RURAL SCHOOLS AND OVER 4800 POOR HOUSEHOLD POPULATION.THE PEOPLE WILL ACCESS CLEAN AND SAFE DRINKING WATER THUS SAVING MANY LIVES.THE BIGGEST CHALLANGE IS HOW TO DRILL 600 BOREHOLES BETWEN 70 TO 100 METRES DEEP, INSTALL HAND PUMPS AND CONSTRUCT THE WATER POINTS, TRAIN WOMEN AND GIRLS ON MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS OF THE BOREHOLES IN CASES OF DAMAGE. THEY WILL ALSO BE TRAINED ON WATER CONSERVATION, PRESERVATION, AND TREATMENT. THE IMPLENTATION OF THIS PROJECT REQUIRES €600,000.
