I work with two disadvantaged untouchable communities namely Dalits and Valayar Tribe living in 50 remote backward villages of Sakottai block of Sivagangai District for the last ten years.
I organized their illiterate women into Self Help groups and their men into Farmers groups. I run functional literacy for the adults and conduct regular enrollment campaign to admit all their children to different primary schools.
I conduct regular PARTICIPATORY REFLECTION AND ACTION STUDY
among them and help them identify their needs and problems and prioritize them.
They want a quality education for their children which will put them in a comfortable position to liberate their communities from untouchable Social status and keep them move equally with other higher caste people.. These women and men respond to my trainings and directions positively that they realized the fact the EDUCATION IS EMPOWERMENT.
Hence they wanted me to start and run a school in the midst of their villages which will impart quality education to their poor children. As pewr their request last year we started a school by name PRAISE MATRIC SCHOOL. There are 200 children studying at present.
Our new school lacks a good library where these poor children could avail books in English and other subjects and enrich their knowledge.They can not go to towns and cities where schools serve rich students and have good library and knowledge bank.
Lack of education for the adults is felt to be a big problem and challenge for these two communities. Hence they want their younger generation get quality education which will empower them sufficiently as to go ahead with demands of development and free themselves from their disadvantaged status.
At present 200 children will benefit from this project.But in the following years the number will steadily increase and the library will serve generations.
We need a donation of 3000 Euros with which we will be able to purchase many number of books in English,Tamil and other subjects. Please try to understand the need of these disadvantaged poor children who aspire for knowledge which is their power and help them have this library equipped with needed books. For this favour I will be immensely grateful to you together with these poor children.
