    The Wagari Girls’ project which means "empowering the girl child" is a project under National Youth Empowerment Network designed to empower the girl child (especially the young woman above 12years to 25 years) in Wakiso district at individual and community level who are socially, culturally and economically disadvantaged to be able to sustain them selves. The project is intended to embrace and strengthen cultural values and norms, skills development and to eradicate poverty. All this blended together will efficiently and successfully empower the girl child to a full woman who knows her rights and responsibilities, can speak-out and take action, makes informed decisions about her health, economy activities and posses a positive behavior towards life hence enhancing community development.

    Uganda today is undergoing both political and socio-economic transformations. The socio-economic transition is mainly concerned with the re-establishment and consolidation of self reliant community-economic initiatives and structures. This transition entails a number of macro and micro economic issues, at the center of which is the millennium development goals, poverty eradication and prosperity for all.

    Action
    The project will empower the young woman in Wakiso District: Namuseera, Mede, Nkowe, Bulondo, schools, institutions and trading centers through numerous activities on skills development, HIV and AIDS awareness and testing, fighting stigma and discrimination, integrated economic and financial literacy, women rights, health and basic skills development. Effective group formation and management, campaign among others.

    The empowered young women and their communities will benefit as they will be able to tackle the HIV/AIDS, stigma and discrimination by changing attitudes and perceptions through actions. They will gain life skills which will help them sustain themselves and their families. They will be able to make informed decisions; protect themselves and help each others not to get infected through unprotected sex. The young women in Wakiso district will become assertive; know their rights, victims will be able to access testing and living positively without affecting others.

    Goal:
    The project is designed to reach out and empower young women at high risk in the slums and rural communities of Wakiso district to be able to sustain themselves, fight poverty and achieve the millennium development goal.

    The project has got 20 members working on it currently. The 20 members include 10 volunteers.

    The donation will benefit this project as many young women in Wakiso district in Uganda,educated, non educated single mothers and married women will be able to sustain them selves economically, live positively with HIV AIDS and learn more about HIV AIDS.
