The wildlife of the Cloud Forest in the foothills of the Western Andes is in danger!! Their forests are fragmented and remaining forests are threatened daily by human activity. Yakusinchi Reserve is protecting 300 acres of this Cloud Forest which is in one of the most important biodiversity hotspots in the neotropics. Just over a year ago Yakusinchi began the project of YakusinchiWild - a rescue and rehabilitation centre where wildlife rescued from illegal trafficking, from loss of habitat and from being kept as pets can be restored to full health and rehabilitated to be returned to the wild. This is vital work and in the area no-one else is doing it. This means that the more enclosures, equipment and help we have, the more animals can be rescued and released back into the wild on the reserve and to other protected areas. The rescue centre is situated within a forest setting on Yakusinchi Reserve so that recovering animals do so in their own environment with the familiar sights, sounds and smells of their beloved forest. The wildlife that we work with has a big range from Howler monkeys and Capuchin monkeys (an endangered subspecies endemic to Western Ecuador), ocelots, sloths, anteaters, kinkajous, armadillos, parrots, toucans, birds of prey, snakes, turtles, iguana and many many more. On Yakusinchi Reserve all of these species already exist naturally plus there are puma, deer, peccaries, many many different reptiles and innumerable birds including the extremely rare Ground-banded cuckoo. We need everyone's help - every little counts and every penny or cent goes entirely to the benefit of the wildlife that is brought to us sometimes even on a daily basis for help.
