Another strong earthquake hits Nepal

Less than three weeks after the severe earthquake, Nepal was again hit by a powerful 7.2 to 7.3 magnitude temblor. The epicentre of this new quake was about 80 kilometres east of Kathmandu, next to the Chinese border. Again, numerous buildings collapsed, dozens of people were killed and more than a thousand injured. The situation of the victims has grown even worse. Once again, the people in the region no longer feel safe, again no one dares to spend the night in the houses, and again tent camps are built in the open spaces. Where just initial plans for the reconstruction had been made, again search and rescue of victims and emergency assistance are required.

Our members in Nepal are all right, as far as we were able to get in touch with them. Our infrastructure in Kathmandu is intact, apart from temporary outages of electricity and communication lines.

We thank all the donors for their generous support provided so far. We will again provide emergency relief, where possible. We will continue the projects which we have initiated and we will identify further requirements. Please continue your material and moral support, and also spread our call for donations to friends, relatives and within your social network. We will keep you up to date on Betterplace.org and on our website http://www.long-yang.org
