Sofia Pride Film Fest has been preceding Sofia Pride, Bulgaria's only LGBT annual pride march, for the last two years. Its aim is to bring quality LGBT-themed cinema to the public space in a unique way - all screenings are being held in an open-air cinema in the very centre of Sofia and are ticket-free. So far we've had great success with getting the venue packed to its limit (200 people) for most of our screenings.
All of the films we've shown have been provided to us for free by their respective right-holders or foreign embassies. The venue's managing company also sponsors the festival by providing the space free of charge for the full length of the festival. In the end of the day, Sofia Pride Film Festival exists thanks to the generosity of the venue, foreign embassies and film producers from around the world.
This year we have a great selection of films: the Oscar-winning “Dallas Buyers Club”, the heartbreaking documentary “Bridegroom”, the critically-acclaimed Finnish documentary “American Vagabond” and, for the first time ever, a Bulgarian film - the Grand Prix winner at the 36th International Short Film Festival Clermont-Ferrand “Pride”.
The fifth film we want to add to this year’s festival is the feature version of the Brazilian short “I Don’t Want to Go Back Alone” (Eu Não Quero Voltar Sozinho). “The Way He Looks” (Hoje Eu Quero Voltar Sozinho) won the Teddy award for Best Feature Film and the FIPRESCI Prize for Panorama.
Your fantastic support already got us the 150 EUR needed to pay the film's European rights holder for obtaining the film. Now we need to collect 100 EUR more for translating the subtitles. This price is amazingly low and was kindly offered to us as means of support for the festival.
We also need some 160 EUR to print posters and flyers which we will put in gay-friendly places around Sofia.
Thank you in advance!
