Recently ZooPlanet (we are a small organisation run by like minded people who wish to preserve wildlife in our local town of Nis, Serbia ) came across two tiny fox cubs for SALE at a local dog show.
People selling them were hoping to sell them to hunters, who would then use the defenceless cubs to train their hunting dogs on.
We immediately confiscated them but were not sure where we would care for them or what we would do with them. They are currently being housed in a tiny metal kennel as that is all we can do for them. They're too young to be released. We spoke to a few experts and they all advise release when the cubs are about 5 months old and say that as little human contact with them is essential for successful return to the wild.
It is impossible to have a small amount of contact with them when they are locked up in a small kennel (2mx1,5mx1m) and need feeding/cleaning. We hope you will help us purchase fencing for a massive run in which we can recreate as natural environment as possible for them. Once these little babies are returned to the wild, the kennel would be used for the next rescues as we hope this could become an ongoing project. We already have a few birds of pray in our care, 2 of which are due to be released soon.
The costs for these two little cubs are as follows :
10e each for vaccinations - total 20e
10e each for revaccinations - total 20e
deworming 2e each - total 4e
THE LARGE REHABILITATION RUN - total 250e
16e for microchipping and rabies shot each - total 32e
food per day 5e for both - 150e for a month
