MICRO CREDIT WORKS

Our mission is to supply micro credits to women in developing countries.
Micro credit loans are small sums of money loaned in a social network which support women who want to implement simple but effective business ideas. The loans not only provide the women for much needed income, but also engender a sense of pride and empowerment.


We handed out our first micro credit, for a sewing machine, in 2005. The next year we received the loan back! Micro credit works. We decided to give this first project a more solid structure. Our pilot project, based in Asia established a micro credit network which is managed by a dedicated team within the community. The team evaluates each application, consisting of a business plan and the names of two guarantors who will repay the debt if the applicant fails to do so.

If approved, the applicant will be awarded a loan, usually equal to 100,000 Kyat or $100 (US) that is paid back over an agreed time period. A small interest rate is added to counter the effects of inflation and contribute towards network running costs. The majority of applicants have been able to repay the loan in less than ten months, and to date, we have enjoyed a 100% repayment rate.
Once the loan repayment is complete, the money is recycled into new micro credits for other applicants.

So far over 300 women per year have been awarded loans, helping them create a more stable present and a brighter future.
Our next goal is to set up a number of micro credit networks, so more communities can benefit from our support!
