In the early 1970s, a group of first-generation graduates from villages in Villupuram District began working to uplift their marginalized communities through education and training. Motivated by the need to combat caste-based discrimination and social exclusion, they formed Social Action Groups with support from Catholic institutions and missionaries. These efforts led to the establishment of the St. Peter Paul Educational and Cultural Trust (SPECT) in 1991 by Mr. L. Selvaraj, a veteran educator and community development worker.

Since then, SPECT has implemented impactful educational and development programs, focusing on women, people with disabilities, and the Dalit community. Today, it runs two formal schools and several community-based initiatives aimed at empowering the underprivileged in and around Villupuram District.
