We are a Lutheran Community Centre which runs, amongst various other projects, different youth activities. Our main target group is youngsters between the age of 10 and 25. We operate in Philippi, a Township close to Cape Town with one of the highest crime rates in South Africa. The crime is mostly committed by adolescents who suffer under a lack of self-esteem, direction, leisure time programs and boredom. The youngsters are exposed to many negative influences like gangsterism, substance abuse and teenage pregnancy. We want to help them to make positive life choices by engaging them in enjoyable leisure time programs. We work with their strength and build up their self-esteem. Furthermore, we try to provide an environment where they feel safe, accepted and loved. We strongly believe that through building up the youth, we can create a safer Philippi and South Africa.


Our aims

- teach them to integrate into groups and work together
- build up trustful relationships with them
- help them to get their lives into order
- teach them life skills
- provide them education and
- assist them in dealing with their social/family problems

Youth work – what we do

- Marimba project – 20 kids between 11 and 17 years
- youth/drama group – 25 youngsters between 15 and 23
- soccer – 120 youngsters between 8 and 25
- karate – 20 kids between 6 and 18
