EACOP is a cross-border pipeline that was launched on 1 February 2022 and runs from the shores of L.Albert(particularly Hoima District), Uganda to Tanga, Tanzania, the 1443km long Project is a Partnership between Uganda through Uganda National Oil Company & Tanzania through Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation both owning (15%), the French multinational oil company Total Energies (Total) as the main investor(62%) together with the China National Offshore Oil Corporation, CNOOC, (23%) and it is to be complete by 2025. In May 2022 as the Students Association, we came up with a movement we named Students Against EACOP to fight challenges associated with EACOP since it would bring disastrous consequences for the local communities, wildlife, and for the entire planet, for example, the displacement of people and families, emergency climate change, water and air pollution, global warming, an increase in carbon emissions. We use civil disobedience as a tool to express our grievances.
