December 19, 2009 Joel Kirutu, the director of Hands of Mercy Outreach Tanzania, has developed a financial model for indirectly supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) through the distribution of loans to women. The current micro-credit Income Generating Activities (IGA) model within the Hands of Mercy project is the outcome of nine years of endeavors, which have lead to a micro-financing idea able to match the main goal of the project: supporting the families hosting orphans. The model is dynamic and opened to improvements. The implementation of an IGA is usually preceded by active initiatives such as listening centers, nutritional centers, community schools or Awareness Groups (AG). The members of the AG are mainly women to whom OVC are entrusted, according to the extended family social system commonly in use in Tanzania. Donations can be made. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Children sponsorship information.
Currently, Hands of Mercy has 34 children in primary school and starting in 2010 all of them will be attending Eden Valley Private School. This has allowed us to make a deal with the headmaster to lower the cost of tuition for our children. Students returning to Eden Valley will be paying 400,000 tshs and new students will be now be paying 420,000 tshs since we have decided to buy cloth and make their uniforms ourselves. We have 15 children attending Eden Valley for the first time and therefore are in need of sponsors for most of them. Also, I do not have all the information of who was sponsoring whom so some returning students are also seeking sponsorship. If you are interested in sponsoring a child get in touch with me and I will send you the details of how to transfer the money to the school’s or Hands of Mercy's bank account. Thank you very much to everyone who is helping these children receive an education
