Über uns
2017 wurde „Rap for Refugees“ ins Leben gerufen – ein gemeinnütziges Projekt, das sich zum Ziel gesetzt hat, Jugendlichen durch die Kultur und Werte des Hip-Hop eine Stimme zu geben. Was als Charity-Festival begann, entwickelte sich schnell zu einer interkulturellen Plattform für Workshops, Veranstaltungen und persönliche Entwicklung. Über die Jahre hat das Projekt hunderte Jugendliche erreicht und ihnen Möglichkeiten eröffnet, ihre Talente in den Bereichen Rap, Beatboxing, Graffiti und Tanz zu entdecken und zu fördern.
Der Ansatz von „Rap for Refugees“ ist klar: Kunst und Kultur dienen als Brücke zwischen verschiedenen Lebenswelten. Es geht darum, Barrieren abzubauen, Geschichten zu erzählen und junge Menschen zu stärken – unabhängig von ihrer Herkunft oder Situation. Im Fokus stehen dabei interaktive Workshops, die kreativen Ausdruck fördern, sowie Festivals, bei denen die Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit präsentiert werden.
Die Erfolgsgeschichte von „Rap for Refugees“ legte den Grundstein für R1SE, ein neues Kapitel der Organisation. Mit R1SE wird die ursprüngliche Idee weiterentwickelt.

Recap: Container Clean-Up Event!
After giving the container a makeover on the outside, we moved on to tidying up the inside – another step towards bringing our community container to life. Thanks to a few helpers, including friends and volunteers, the clear-out and tidy-up was a complete success! The contents of the container were sorted into unusable and usable items, so that we can continue to use some of the furniture and utensils for sale once these items have also had a little makeover. Benches, for example, will be sanded down, stained or varnished. Well-preserved crockery, for instance, can continue to be used. Shelves can be used for the storage container. An old corner bench, on the other hand, would take up too much space and is therefore being disposed of, as are old carpets, to ensure hygiene standards are maintained.
Thanks to the lovely people involved, things progressed quite quickly, so we were rewarded with a delicious meal prepared by a resident who is currently training to be a chef. Now we’re just waiting for the bulky waste to be collected. Meanwhile, two other residents, together with Ata, have installed the cameras.
It is remarkable how positively many residents have spoken about the community kiosk and how much of a relief it will be when they can buy essential groceries locally at subsidised prices. Many are also offering their support. This project alone shows just how much it means to local people to have a role to play and to feel needed. We are all the more delighted that the residents themselves will be able to help run the kiosk.
Nevertheless, there’s still a lot to do. The containers need to be completely painted inside, shelves and motion-activated lights need to be fitted, and we need to source food, fridges and so on. All of this costs money, and none of it can be done without donations. That’s why we’re so grateful to you for continuing to share our project, so that we can reach our goal – even with small contributions!
