Women Across Borders was founded in 2008 as a response to the xenophobic attacks targeting refugees and foreign nationals in South Africa. Again, in 2015, foreign nationals suffered violent attacks, leaving women and children especially vulnerable.
Women Across Borders works with refugee women living in the central Durban area; our public is mainly from the KwaZulu Natal region in South Africa. The region is inhabited by a large number of refugees from different countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Somalia etc.
Our mission is to advance the rights of refugee women by maximizing their access to economic resources, education and capacity building through economic empowerment, education, and advocacy.
Our objectives are:
• To increase access to economic resources to refugee women
• To promote purpose-driven education and skills development
• To strengthen the advocacy skills of refugee women
• To promote gender equality.
