African Community Teams Support

wird verwaltet von L. Appel

Über uns

ACTS was founded in late 2009 by local Ugandans to empower vulnerable others. Our team is composed of community members in the greater Mbale area, who themselves have experienced many social evils and led difficult lives (orphaned, displaced, bartered, cheated, fostered and poverty-stricken), but survived through hard child labor or otherwise. As victims who survived and circumvented many social evils and injustices, we understand the value of holistic empowerment of victims of violence, marginalization and exploitation. Upon this background, we team up as like-minded persons to facilitate and support such empowerment: Under the umbrella of ACTS, we coordinate grass root activities, commit to a common ethical agenda and improve the lives of the neediest in our communities.

Employing the concept of empowerment, our charitable programmes aim to be self-sustaining in order to overcome aid dependence generated by cash or food handouts. We equip victims with both an academic as well as practical education to enable people to take charge of their own opportunities and ultimately to become service providers in their own communities. Practical skills are taught via our Empowerment Academy (TEA) and the services provided by our students now include: Nursery care and education, hair dressing, horticulture, poultry and carpentry.
Beyond these, ACTS members also support primary, secondary and tertiary education by giving partial scholarships to the poorest of the poor but bright students in communities.
Our close involvement in the community means that we can identify people with the greatest need and oversee their development from victims to active community members that can help to empower those around them.

All our members and those who deal and/or seek to deal with us must adhere to our core values at all times. These are accountability, commitment to team work, tact, integrity, vigilance and equity.
