The largest portion of Balochistan’s population comprises a rural tribal setup where availability of living necessities like safe drinking water, education and health are the core issues for the local communities. Tribal disputes, rivalries and other lawlessness etc. have greatly disrupted the peace and harmony of the region. There are fewer opportunities available to the local people to address their basic issues.APDO Awam Peace & Development Organization was founded by local activists in year 2000 with notion to tackle challenges of peace and development through means of available resources. Initially, APDO adopted traditional approaches with regard to promoting greater social cohesion among different communities to make environment conducive for sustainable development.Funding was raised through self-help initiatives to address local issues such as providing books to primary school children, advocacy campaign on prevention from Malaria and Hepatitis C, providing health & hygiene kits, provision of logistic support to women for registration with NADRA (National Database Registration Authority) and seminars/walks on peace and stability. In 2012 APDO was registered (registration No. ADZB/LRI) with Provincial Social Welfare department to execute formal community based projects. Being involved in disaster risk reduction projects, APDO was also registered with Provincial disaster management authority in February 2013.
