What is the purpose of the Ukrainian Philanthropic Network?

The charitable organisation Ukrainian Philanthropic Network has been created in order to provide everyone who sincerely seeks it, regardless of his social role, income, or free time, the ability to make the lives of orphans with disabilities better.

Why does the Ukrainian Philanthropic Network work for orphans with disabilities?

Orphanhood is a heavy burden for people. Unfortunately, currently Ukraine cannot provide families to most orphans. Most of the children who are brought up at the orphanages were abandoned by their parents, or their parents were deprived of parental rights by court. Orphanages deprive children, young people, and then adults of so many things without which most of us cannot imagine our lives.

However, sometimes fate strikes a double blow – and an orphan is physically, intellectually, or mentally (or simultaneously!) disabled. The Ukrainian Philanthropic Network considers disabled orphans the most vulnerable social group. It would seem that the state should create decent living conditions for disabled orphans, should not it? However, striking facts prove the opposite. Most disabled orphans live at the orphanages – special sociomedical institutions of the Ministry of Social Policy, which have not been improved (if not worsened) since the collapse of the USSR.

Moreover, orphans with disabilities usually are rarely adopted (for example, in the UK there is a queue for the adoption of children with Down syndrome) so currently most of them are doomed to a life, or even existence, in the system of social security institutions.

Does the Ukrainian Philanthropic Network work in the interests of other vulnerable social groups?

No, the Ukrainian Philanthropic Network is a specialised charitable organisation, and works only in the interests of orphans with disabilities. We believe that focusing on this relatively small problematic area, we can achieve more significant long-term positive change.

How can I make sure that my donation will go directly to orphans with disabilities?

Upon a benefactor’s request, the Ukrainian Philanthropic Network provides documentary proof of the receipt of a donation or aid, and its use for the intended purpose. In addition, benefactors are encouraged to personally bring aid to orphans with disabilities as well as follow the reports.

The Ukrainian Philanthropic Network is a charitable organisation registered as a legal person by the Department of Justice in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast on 9 September 2009, and by the State Registrar of the Executive Committee of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council on 22 September 2009.
