School of Hope Dhaka is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious educational institute funded by the local and international business community, as well as private donations. Our mission is to provide primary education to economically disadvantaged children within their community.

School of Hope was established in January 1990, as a private initiative by Mr. Wim Bakker, a Dutch man who at that time was living in Bangladesh. Moved by the number of children he saw working on the streets of Dhaka who were clearly missing the opportunity to go to school, he set up a small classroom in his own garage. This eventually became School of Hope, which today provides a quality education to 200 disadvantaged children every day in the neighborhood of Badda.

Many children in Dhaka go without proper and essential education every day due to a variety of factors. While all of us are susceptible to hard times, children are at the most risk, and they make up the demographic we serve. The cost of running a school for impoverished children is extremely high as items such as nutritional meals, teacher's salary, electricity, running water, internet and gas for cooking are all necessary to supply the children’s day at school. With your generous support, we are able to meet the essential educational needs of these children and work toward a brighter future with programs in further education and a sustainable environment.
