Nahdet El Mansouria for Development (NAMAD)

Mansouria is 30 kilometers outside of Cairo, home to 500,000 people in many small villages and farms. Nahdet El Mansouria (NAMAD) means to uplift its people through many projects which the people are in need of. One of these projects concerns teaching reading and writing to 250 of the 720 children in El Mohawelat School which is a public school. By law all children must pass their exams to make room for the coming classes. Due to this at the present, 250 children ages 6 to 15 actually cannot read or write and spend their days in class unable to grasp what is going on. NAMAD is providing 7 classes after school dedicated to just teaching the children to read and write. For the school year 2009/2010 for this activity to continue we need funding to pay the teachers and to provide the books and copybooks for the students and a small snack. The classes are held at the school at no cost. For the 8 months of school and during the summer holiday for 2 months, the cost is estimated at LE 15000 or nearly 2000 Euros.
