Über uns

In 2009, Kelly traveled to Ghana to work in an orphanage as part of her education. The orphanage in Ghana was at this time is not an internship in the program. Mia Svare from Trondheim, which has helped to build this orphanage, helped us in the process and the orphanage in Ghana is now a valid internship at the University College of Sør-Trøndelag.

The following year, Kelly and Liza traveled back to the orphanage to work as volunteers. It was amazing to meet the children again and not least to see how well they did. We collected £ 25,000 to the orphanage. School books, food, medicines and shoes to over 90 children were some of the money went to. The children live in a small village and some of the children have never seen anywhere else, so we spent some money to organize a trip for all the children. We hired buses, bought food and took them to a beautiful beach where they could swim and play all day. Achieving a trip for the kids was perhaps not the most important, but it was a trip they'll remember the rest of their life's.

After all this we still had money left on our account and received tips from our guide, Seth, about another orphanage that desperately needed help. We bought rice, beans, tomatoes, onions, chicken, fish, toothpaste, toothbrushes, diapers, baby food, kettle, soap, water, school books, etc. This orphanage was in very poor condition compared to what we came from.

"Helping hand childrens home" started with five children, two were abandoned by their parents. There was only one lady who worked there. Now she is alone responsible for 25 children aged from six months to nine years. At the orphanage they have little food, no electricity or water connected to the orphanage, even though there is electricity and water nearby.

The orphanage relies on volunteers to make it go around, as of today, no one will help at the orphanage because of the poor standard. There are no toilets and the volunteers have no place to stay.

They hope in the near future that the orphanage will have help from volunteers or organizations that can help provide food, water and electricity to the orphanage. So the living condition of the children become more comfortable and that the children will have a good life.
