Donkey Shelter (Abrigo do Jumento) was founded in March of 2007 as a rescue centre for old, abandoned or ill-treated donkeys, where these animals receive all the necessary care and for many, it represents a well-deserved retirement. Furthermore our is aim to protect and to raise awareness for the donkey in Portugal.

We are a non-governmental and non-profit organisation in Portugal and we do not receive any form of state funding or subsidies. All sources of income for this project proceed solely from public support, namely from donations, sale of merchandising and small activities.
