The Mosquito Nets Drive

Mosquito nets are a means of preventing Malaria infections. Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected mosquitoes. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a child dies of malaria every 30 seconds. There were 247 million cases of malaria in 2006, causing nearly one million deaths, mostly among African children. Malaria takes an economic toll - cutting economic growth rates by as much as 1.3% in countries with high disease rates.

It is upon this background that Support to Children sought to reduce the impact of Malaria by providing mosquito nets to the children in the program to reduce their risk to death and suffering at the mercy of this killer disease, and also to improve their performance not only in school but also in other extra-curricular activities. An insect-side treated mosquito net costs anywhere between $15-20.00. Our goal is to at least provide 2000 mosquito nets every year.

Small Capital Incentives

Also among our activities is provision of small capital incentives to organized groups of orphans’ families especially women who traditionally shoulder most of the burden in looking after orphans. Capital is provided for instance to those families engaged in crafts making as a means of livelihood to enhance their production capacity and to enable them acquire machinery.

The Gifts Drive

Do you have shoes, clothes, toys or books that you no longer need? These could make a lot of difference in a child’s life in Uganda. We donate used shoes, clothes and toys to children that can make very good use of them. So many children walk bare-footed to school a pair of shoes goes a long way in taking each child closer to his dream. Contact us for more details

The Pig Project

Through this project the organization reaches out to families by giving out piglets to households with orphans or needy children with greater focus on Child Headed Households (CHH). After the piglets grow and breed, these families give back only one piglet out of whatever number of piglets that are born, to the organization so that it can be given to another household in need. This has helped more families to benefit from the project and ensured sustainability.

The base cost per pig for the best breed is $25.00 but could vary depending on the age of the piglets.

Support to Children works closely with the beneficiaries to promote better farming mechanisms for the best output. In addition, the project supports the households in getting market and the best prices for their animals.

It is through such unique projects that the organization is able to strike a balance between giving out hand-outs to orphans and promoting sustainable growth that the orphans can fall back on for the rest of their lives.

The requested donations are going to be used to buy mosquito nets for babies in our project. Malaria is one of the leading killers in Uganda today. Sleeping  under a mosquito net prevents mosquito bites while one is asleep and consequently controls spread of malaria parasites. We are extremely grateful to all that have contributed towards this cause.

A donation amount of €40.00 was requested for the following needs:
