The final countdown
Hello supporters… you might have seen that the initial 6kEUR goal was cracked and we are at 6500 EUR now!!! Wow! Thanks so much!!!
It has been an amazing week so far with athletes from the US, England, Scotland, Wales, Norway, Spain, India and Germany. Amazing stories from an ultra marathon runner who just ran a 200 km race, a lady running in Somalia and Afghanistan for women rights, and so on and on and on…! Truly inspirational and fun! Every night meet up at the camp fire for a beer and stories.
And of course, the community engagement which you might have seen on my Instagram. A day with a program that supports youth to build their entrepreneurial dream - I was discussing with a young man ideas to grow his coffee business, but also with ladies that are opening a retail store. Not sure how much I could support, but it was so interesting to discuss and bounce ideas.
We worked one day in a plastic recycling plant -a social business that collects waste and turns it into products - anything from benches, posts, jewelry… imagine there are going 60 tons of plastic into the environment every day in Uganda - every day!?!? They can only collect a fraction so far, but it has been on a growth trajectory.
Uganda and its people have been so welcoming and friendly - but the highlight will be tomorrow! Many of the the schools, businesses, … we visited will participate in the run so it will be a huge event with many new friends.
Today it is carb loading and relaxing at the pool, tomorrow breakfast starts at 4 am, the start of the race is 7 am. The terrain is very hilly, it will be hot tomorrow, so wish me luck!!
More to come tomorrow… if I can still lift the phone to write something….
