Scott's 40th Valderrama-ganza Celebration

 

2020 hasn’t quite been as planned and that will include my birthday. Born in 1980, I’ll be turning 40. All my life, 2020 always seemed like it should be somehow significant. I had special travel plans - for years now, I planned to head to Colombia to celebrate (if you’re wondering why, I’ve always wanted to go ever since Italia 1990 when I first saw their national team’s yellow kit and set eyes on Carlos Valderrama and his fabulous hair 😍🤩). But as 2020 has gone by and the pandemic has gotten bigger, my plans have gradually gotten smaller and smaller. Now back in semi-lockdown in Berlin, I’ve been thinking about how to mark the occasion 🚫no travel options 🚫no big party 🚫no posh meal out 🚫no fancy cocktail bar.  Well, in thinking about what I couldn’t have, I started to think about all I already do have and am thankful for. Then I started to think about the things I’ve always been lucky enough to take for granted, thanks to my parents, my partner Phil, my loved ones, my friends and the chances afforded me. My health, home and happiness.

I want to mark the day by doing some small thing for at least one of the above. So I’ve decided to donate (most) of what would have been my spending money (rough estimate of course) for a holiday to help out others in some small way. I’ve split my donation between two homeless charities, one in the UK and one in Berlin, namely Berliner Stadtmission Kältehilfe.
