Last Saturday I achieved a new personal best - 3km is my longest ever swim and I did it in under two hours. Not only that but more than 50% of the distance was front crawl. Major achievements all round.
I swam it at Hampton Lido and had a very large cooked breakfast when I was done and dusted. Fully earned I reckon!
I can report that I did relax about my crawl and just aimed for long and lazy. It worked. I'm off to the Kingston (indoor) pool later today for an evening swim but perhaps more importantly I've just booked my first swim in Ham Lake for the 13/5 at 7.30am. I shall be renting a wetsuit! It's a coached session so lets see how I fare with that.
No wetsuits are allowed for the Bosphorus swim itself as the water temperature will be around 26 degrees (the norm for an indoor pool).
I still wonder whether lengths done with flippers and hand paddles are easier than without and whether these count at all but lets quit the worrying and be pleased that summer is on its way!!
