As part of the overall project to establish a sustainable event place in a peripheral rural area, we would like to build a composting toilet in the hygiene supply area. In doing so, we are pursuing three goals. As future social event organizers, we want to show the that events can be offered in a CO2 neutral and sustainable manner, which we want to demonstrate with the composting toilet. Second, we see sustainability embedded in an ecological cycle and use the resulting compost to fertilize a small diverse garden at the venue. Third, sustainability is also a social learning process. Therefore, we want to educate with the project, what are the advantages and disadvantages in contrast to conventional sanitation.
The construction of the composting toilet is to be created largely from sustainably sourced resources. By this we mean, for example, the use of resources from the immediate natural environment (field stones) or from recycling of resources that are no longer needed or disposed of. Nevertheless, we rely on materials that we can only acquire through the standard market process.
