It has been for several years that we observe the excessive and abusive use of available land spaces by the practice of inadequate cultivation techniques leading not only to infertility of the soil but also to its degradation in certain places of cultivable spaces due to to the demographic explosion justified by a high and unplanned birth rate, but also by the immigration of populations to the large centers exploring insecurity and which unfortunately ignore the practices of modern agro-forestry systems. This situation pushes the local communities of the territory of Nyiragongo to move to the Park in search of arable land in order to meet some of their basic needs.
To achieve this, the WWID / HFL organization seeks to enhance forest environments by initiating permaculture activities and protect the biodiversity of Virunga National Park.
Thus, nurseries of pre-selected agro-forestry species will be set up and popularized to the population with a view to recharging degrading areas and maintaining them on farms, which means that we will have to set up 7 nurseries of agro-forestry species but if we started from the price of seedlings we would be opposed to buying a seedling at the price of 3 €
In this perspective, this project is not only part of the Priority Plan of the Provincial Government of North Kivu, but also of the national sub-program for the management of protected areas.
