“If they cannot come to the gym, we will bring the gym to them!”

The
Moveable Gym supports young people on Lesvos island through sports, empowerment and integration. The objective is to provide women and men from refugee and host communities with quality sports activities, such as yoga, skateboarding and martial arts.

After the fire and the closure of the Moria refugee camp, many young people suffer from uncertainty and the humanitarian situation. Many live in temporary shelters in remote areas. From there, it is difficult particularly for women to travel to sports facilities.

Together with our local partner Yoga and Sport with Refugees (YSR) we are investing in a Moveable Gym: a van full of sports, empowerment and opportunities. The vehicle allows YSR to follow its beneficiaries no matter where they are located and no matter the changes in the political environment. The project will bridge gaps between the refugee population and the local community by bringing people together to do sports in a safe space where everyone can feel welcome.

The purchase of the second hand van was financed by ONE TEAM. This crowdfunding campaign aims at getting the Moveable Gym moving: This includes financing sports euipment, running costs and the design of the van. All items will be purchased in Greece in order to support the local economy.  The activites are planned for 12 months, starting in October 2021.

Who we are

ONE TEAM is a non-profit sport organization from Frankfurt, Germany. We provide children and young people worldwide with access to sport in order to promote education, health and equality. Currently, we cooperate with social sport projects, among others in Kenya, Namibia and Rwanda. Through our partners, we annually reach out to more than 2,000 young people.  We support the projects through events, fundraising and public relations in Germany. Together with our partners in Germany and our local partner organizations such as Yoga & Sport with Refugees, we form a team that is committed to a common goal: empowering children and young people through sports and education. For the “Unstoppable Sport” project our local partner is Yoga & Sport for Refugees (YSR).

The goal of  Yoga & Sport for Refugees (YSR) is to empower refugees in Athens and on the Greek island of Lesvos to believe in themselves, their dreams, and their strength. YSR helps them to build important skills, create a purpose and become part of a strong community. YSR does this through sport activities such as yoga, gym training, running, swimming, classes, martial arts, dance, climbing and more. YSR was born in 2017 on the island of Lesvos and expanded to Athens in September 2020. Since then, YSR offered more than 20 different sports activities to more than 7,000 people, and had over 70 refugee coaches.
